Vicksburg
In one of the more remarkable Civil War campaigns, General Ulysses S. Grant and his army manged to capture an important Confederate outpost and take control of the Mississippi River after a grueling 47-day siege. Grant had now effectively sealed the fate of the South by controlling one of it's most important locations and resources.
