Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
On April 9,1865 , General Robert E. Lee, growing more desperate by the minute and weary of the all the bloodshed the war had caused, responded to General Grant's letter in that to meet him at William McLeans home to negotiate terms of surrender. In the events that followed, General Lee accepted General Grant's generous terms of surrender which effectively ended the Civil War.
